Omaha Poker Odds, Probabilities and Outs

Poker is a game where mathematical parameters matter and Omaha is no exception. Most important figures in this case are the number of hands you decide to draw and the number of hands that hold up against your opponents.

The longer we will examine this, the better certainty we get concerning the result. This mathematical expectancy is called probability. Time factor is very important, because one day you may feel strong and draw almost every hand while another day may be less successful and you will be beaten.

That is why long run examination is important. After multiple games the laws of probability start working and mathematical expectation shows real situation. According to the data collected it’s possible to say the percent of right decisions and choices made by the player.

Even though Omaha and Texas Hold’em are really close games, they have some differences and one of them concerns decision making process. In Omaha/8 it may be easier to find the right decision, but the wrong one will cost you more than in Hold’em.

In Omaha more cards are involved into creating hands and thus it’s easier to get a good combination from 4 cards in your hand and 5 community cards, but the same applies to your opponents, so you should keep a close eye on them.

For example, you want to win with the low end of the pot and have the following hand – deuce and a trey. This is the third best possible low hand and you might feel yourself a winner, but you opponent shows up an ace-trey or an ace-deuce. Such situation should not shock you as it’s typical for Omaha.

Or quite often Texas Hold’em players try Omaha and collect best possible flush and sure they will win with such strong hand and then opponents turn up with something like a full house or four-of-a-kind. Indeed, this situation is rather uncommon for Hold’em as good flush most probably will win, but Omaha is different.

That’s why it’s so important to know more concerning statistics and probability if you want to play Omaha seriously. Moving forward with something like straight or flush in this game may cost you money, so knowing your chances to win the pot becomes vital.
